Hi everyone, I'm extremely lazy with introductions so I'll copy paste my profile. I am the founder of Chocolate lemon I am also the self proclaimed 'King of the Casuals' (gamers).I run various tournaments and events in New York. I've recently auditioned for the reality show Ultimate Gamer in season 2 and drew rave reviews from the casting director for my overall gaming skill and personality. I am well versed in gaming but chooses to pursue other interests as well. My philosophy on life is about balance. I have also appeared on MTV's Overdrive and contributed to Stephen Stephen Totilo articles during his tenure at MTV. I also have appeared in a photo gallery, Robbie Cooper's Alter Ego Project and worked on a piece for the NY Times called Immersion. Since then I have made various contacts within the gaming industry and community . I work closely with New York-Tokyo to help run their gaming events. When I am not gaming or perusing world domination, I am at the gym working out and playing basketball(my first love) Most recently at the World Cyber Games fight club I placed 27th overall in Tekken 6, 8th in Virtual Figther 5 and 13th in Dead or Alive.Guess all the time getting beat up by Justin W. paid off. My favorite games of all time include Gun Grave, Bust-a-groove, Monster Hunter and Guilty Gear. I started Chocolate Lemon because I didn't like the way this other site was trying to milk me for connections. |

My name is Kristian Wingfield-Bennett and I am the Community Manager for www.xboxliveaddicts.co.uk and go under the forum name of Roo Avery (a link back to my love of Feist books). I am also a Xbox LIVE Ambassador and nominated Microsoft Xbox MVP. Unfortunately although receiving a nomination for the spring intake cycle I wasn’t accepted this time round. But to be nominated by my peers was encouragement enough. As well as the normal responsibilities that go along with community management I do participate in review and news writing for both Xbox and PC related news on Xboxliveaddicts (xbla). I have been lucky enough to attend a few launch parties (DiRT2 etc) since joining xbla so I have probably walked past a few of you previously. Outside of xbla I am a Technical Consultant specialising in Mobile Convergence working for a Carphone Warehouse / Best Buy Europe owned company. Research covers all aspects of consumer electronics and business convergence solutions. It’s a R&D role but also includes first and second line support to a select bunch of our top resellers. I've always found these "hello friend-o" openers a bit strange. More like... I'm not really sure how we define ourselves by our body of work? Yes, it's true that our work is definitely a part of ourselves but it's interesting that the first thing we choose to define is our work. Maybe I'm just overly idealistic about the workplace being a place where we're actually humans and not machines endlessly promoting the jivemind (in our case, videogames). That said, I think I'll try a different approach and see how it maps out. I'm Stephen Keating and I think my favorite restaurant has to be Mesa Rosa. It's a small Tex-Mex joint and serves a variety of Texican dishes, but my favorite has to be their tamales. I'm as white as a sheet, but nothing makes me wish I was good at cooking more than tamales. The soft corn texture, layered upon squishy pork and a not-so-delicate cheese sauce (with lovingly filled out sides of refried beans and rice) is simply divine. The food sort of makes you forget about your troubles. Maybe I'll write "Zen, Tamales and the Art of Videogames" someday. So now I'm a bit hungry now and I also have to talk about what I do. Well, I'm an academic writer and freelancer from Texas who enjoys writing about issues in the current videogame scene. Issues like questions of character, musical tastes and acceptability, the core mechanics of jumping, how games might approach death in a way that isn't stupid, stuff like that. I've written a few award nominated pieces in the realm of academia. I want to write a book about what I consider to be the "emotional lives" of videogames. There's something intensely satisfying about the unique way in which people feel about videogames and to a degree the oft recalled extremity of it (whether it's throwing a controller at a wall or crying at Aeris's death--I say "at" since I don't think "with Cloud" or "for Aeris" is accurate). I'm currently moving on to The New School to pursue a Graduate Degree in Media Studies and will acquire a Ph.D thereafter. I've always been excited about school; the prospect of learning for the sake of learning seems remarkable to me (especially in this day and age!). There are times when I consider becoming a politician for the simple desire to help more people learn. In the past I've taught in South Korea as an English teacher for Hagwons. It was a different experience from anything I've done before or since. What's startling to me is just how shy people are about speaking English, especially those who do not speak it natively. I noticed that such shyness was apparent in Japan and to a lesser extent, Italy. Being the "language of the world" seems to come with that sort of awkwardness I suppose (my own preconceptions about its universality likely being equally problematic). I have a blog as well (seems like everyone does these days), where I mostly write about the progress of my fan translation and its painful lurching, as well as posts about videogames, music, poetry--whatever fits my fancy. Sort of the great thing about blogs, they can wear different hats at the same time and not look ridiculous (though at times they may also seem incongruous--after all, the top hat doesn't sit too well with the fedora). I hope so far that my writing has been of a decent standard, I try to put quirky jokes in there when it feels right but I don't think many people get my humour. Don't mean to be too disparaging but if you're the only one who gets your humor, I suspect it's probably not humorous. Welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy your time here. It's a fairly laid back place. Don't be afraid to write as yourself, as long as you aren't openly impersonating Glenn Beck, I suspect people will feel the honesty in your writing if you don't hold back. ______________________ |

Ok, so I guess its my turn now. Hello Everyone, my name is Jonathan Seidenfeld and I'm the CEO of Omniverse Games. I've been in the game industry over 15 years, first with Sega of America, then moving to Sony. I was one of the original employees at SCEA (number 7 actually) and the first person there with any game industry experience (having just come from 2 years at Sega). I helped establish the third party licensing department at Sony and estimate I was responsible for bringing in about a quarter of the original Sony 3P licensees and "helped lay the groundwork for the successful PlayStation launch" or something like that as written in my resume. I've been with a variety of companies since then and ended up in China in 2007 working with a 3rd tier Chinese publisher where I was responsible for the North American operation of their MMORPG "World of Kung Fu". It was my first exposure to the free-to-play with microtransactions business model. When they first described it to me I thought they were seriously insane - I had no idea how big virtual items were at the time, and the market, especially in the West, has only grown. During my time there I learned a lot about MMOs and that side of the industry generally. I also learned how different the business culture in China is from the West. The people in my company didn't even know what a press release was! It took months before they finally gave the the few hundred dollars I needed for proper press release distribution, even though we were spending thousands on banner ads, with mixed results. The state of disorganization and inefficiency combined with total ignorance of Western business practice was shocking to me. I kept thinking that surely I can do better if I (together with my American producer/techie/web guy) went out on our own. This we have done, hence Omniverse Games. We localize, publish, and operate Chinese games in English speaking markets. We can take risks that big publishers could never do. For example salaries are 80% lower here and rent is about half of the US. Our revenue is in USD but our expenses are in Chinese money. In short we don't require our games to make 100K per month just to stay afloat (would be nice though!) Our first game, "Beach Volleyball Online" will go into open beta at the end of this month. I take care of the PR and marketing myself, as well as a lot of other stuff as well. Much as I hate writing press releases I understand that they are both necessary and effective. Since my background is mostly in biz dev rather than marketing or PR, I'm still learning, and I'm finding this site to be incredibly useful. I do have to admit, however, that I feel a little bit like a fox in the hen house when I'm here. I really really want to meet all of you and I am happy to add any of you to our media list for our upcoming releases, supply screen shots, videos, etc. I'm trying to get this business off the ground, and any suggestions, support, and especially coverage, would be greatly appreciated! Hello everyone. I'm extremely new to the world of video game journalism, so I feel a little like I invited myself to the party. But since I'm here, I might as well make some new friends... I come from a marketing/advertising background and have been playing video games for as long as I can remember. My latest contract finished up not long ago, so I finally decided to merge my two loves – video games and writing. I write for the love of it, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to turn this foray into a career at some point. However, at this time, I have zero contacts in the video game industry and my site is a mere few weeks old. So that's why I'm here: Networking while my resume expands.
