Blockbuster first person shooters in Golden Joystick battle

â€˜Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ in shoot out with ‘Battlefield: Bad Company’ and ‘Halo 3: ODST’

Shooter category wide open in world’s biggest video games awards event

Some of the videogame world’s biggest franchises are battling head to head in the race to claim the ITN Game On Shooter of the Year award at the 2010 Golden Joystick Awards.

The blockbuster games Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Battlefield: Bad Company and Halo 3: ODST also take on other classics in the genre including Alien vs. Predator, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat and the gruesome Left 4 Dead 2 in what is surely the most wide-open category in this year’s awards.

Metro 2033, Metroid Prime Trilogy Borderlands and Bioshock 2 complete the stellar line up of titles in contention that all command huge and passionate fan communities.

The FPS genre is perhaps the most fervently supported of any gaming category. The soaring sales and continuing popularity of the nominated titles in the ITN Game On Shooter of the Year category proves that whilst video gaming has broadened it’s appeal into a mainstream lifestyle pursuit over the last few years, quality shoot ‘em ups have grown their popularity in the bedroom and living rooms of the world.

Nearly three quarters of a million votes have already been cast in this year’s competition and with just over one month’s voting to go, the competition is hotting up to determine the year’s favourite video games.

The full list of nominee for the ITN Game On Shooter of the Year at the 2010 Golden Joystick Awards, are:
