The 'Hello Everyone' Topic
A quick hello from Hamburg, Germany. My name is Martin and I'm the founder of Decane, developing iPhone apps/games, webplayer 3d games and serious simulations, all with the Unity 3d engine. I got here as someone posted a link over in the Unity forums.

A very nice site so far I think and I'm quite curious where this will develop to. This site has good potentials I think.

Best
Martin :-)

Hi all, my name is Susan (aka Sky). I'm a 21yr old gamer from London. I've been gaming since I was 5yrs and I've not stopped since. I started writing about games a few years ago on a place called GirlsandGaming.com before swiftly realising that they weren't attracting what I would regard my "target audience" and I was snapped up by Xboxer360.com / VideoGame-Reviews.co.uk.

I am a very versatile gamer, I game on my PC, 360, DS, PSP etc, although I do have a soft spot for my Xbox 360. I mostly work on reviews/previews and writing tongue-in-cheek editorials that get the people talking online.

If anyone wishes to contact me in regards to writing or have questions about Xboxer360/VGR, than please email me:

susan@videogame-reviews.co.uk

Nice to meet you all!

Hi everybody!

My name' s Lucija, I' m from Croatia and I am 21 years old. I work for a student radio in Zagreb (Radio Student) and one gaming web site (Lock 'n' Load). As far as I can see, I' m little behind you guys. I hooked on gaming when I was 13, 14 years old. At that time, my sister and I bought ourselves PSone. Before that, we were begging our parents to buy us computer because of a certain game called Monkey Island 3. Back in 1997, I think that every single teenage computer owner had MI3 installed on their machine and we were just lucky enough to find ourselves in one of those household where the pack of children gathered around computer solving, together, one puzzle at the time. With a tiny bit of help from walktrough, of course.

But we didn' t get the computer. Instead, my grandma bought us some cheap copy of NES or SNES platform for my First Communion. We played Super Mario on it, literally, night and day, 16/7. Until it broke. And it broke 2 months after purchase. So after that, our grandma told us that she' ll never buy us something like that again and our parents still didn' t wanna hear anything about computer and gaming consoles.

Few years later, we spent a summer with our cousin playing games on his old Sega console and sometimes going to video arcade to play PS games. Our cousin said that Sega is dead and PS is the future and that he was thinking about buying PS when he returns home. And he did it. Which made us very jealous and determined to buy ourselves one too. We finally saved enough amount of money and thus, we got a console that would change our life forever. Actually, it changed my life more than my sisters since I' ve played on it as twice as she had.

After couple of years of gaming and reading gaming magazines it came to me that it would be great to write about games in some magazin or on TV. But, it turned out that all of TV gaming shows were soon cancelled and gaming magazines present on the market already had their staff fulfilled with people who had been writing about games industry for approximately ten years so I figured they wouldn' t let me in that easily.

By the time I graduated, I still didn' t know on which college I should go to. I picked up journalism because I heard it was easy and I got the chance to benefit from student rights here (free yearly public transport ticket, cheap food in some restaurants,...). It turned out great because, very quickly, I got a job at the aforementioned radio and I lobbied for a technology show there. I got it last year and almost cracked because, at the beginning, I didn' t have any colleagues (some of them quit when they heard it won' t be a paid job) and most of the time I was completely exhausted because I wanted everything to go perfect and everything, due to the lack of time and knowledge concerning that medium, was, each time, far from perfect. Fortunately, next semester I formed a team of enthusiasts, who heard about the show by chance, and things went more smoothly. Then I got some free time which I spent on researching more gaming related issues. And since my show is about new technologies in general, not in particular of gaming, I offered some of the texts I' ve written to the chief editor of LNL web site. He published it without any bad remarks and the next thing you know I started to work there too.

My favourite genres are (point 'n' click) adventures, japanese RPGs and platformers. Maybe it' s because the first games I' ve encountered fit in the above genres (MI3, Broken Sword 2, Grandia, Super Mario). Those are also one of my favourite games too.

At this moment, I' m mastering all levels at Scribblenauts and working to solve all mysteries and puzzles in Professor Layton' s sequel. Next game on my list is old, but, so I' ve heard, very enjoyable jRPG, Xenogears.

Hey guys,

My name's Jordan Garland, also known colloquially as 'Laika'. I'm 18 and fairly recently started my foray into the world of videogame journalism. I used to occasionally write a Wordpress blog I called 'Laika's Spout' where I would occasionally review a game, but more frequently rant about celebrity culture and political nonsense. I now write voluntarily for Dualshockers.com, a US based publication where I'm 'Senior European Correspondent', a position which I've held since July of this year.

I'm very much a Playstation 3/360 type of guy and I'm definitely inclined to prefer adventure/first person shooter type games, heavily anticipating Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising and Heavy Rain like nobodies business. Thus far, I've written two reviews for Dualshockers, one on DiRT 2 and another on the frankly awful ION ASSAULT, as well as a myriad of news posts and editorials.

I'm now currently looking for some freelance work, possibly paid work if it turns out my writing is good enough for it. Next in my sights is the Fallout 3 DLC for PS3, starting with Broken Steel.

Howdy all! My name is Franklin Pride, and I'm a 23-year-old game designer from Missouri. I've spent significant time learning numerous programming languages, and now run a teaching website devoted to teaching game designers how to use the Unity game design engine. I've had some success in this area, and will more than likely have enough money and experience to start my own game studio in a couple years. I also review Macintosh games on the side for InsideMacGames.com.

I'm looking for programming work, however I specialize in the use of the Unity game engine (Unity3D.com). I can provide demonstrations of past projects upon request.

Hello, everyone!

I feel a bit like the newbie here as I haven't been involved with the press (at least officially) for very long. My name is Sherry, and I've been a gamer for over 15 years. I've only been press for a few months, but have been unofficially involved with my friend's podcast. Basically just giving out ideas and such.

Eventually I was roped into helping with her website Gameinatrix.com (http://www.joomgx.gameinatrix.com/index.php), and the podcast Gamer Girls Radio (http://www.blogtalkradio.com/GamerGirlsRadio). Both the site and podcast are run by girls, although we do have a token male that chimes in.

We hit on many different subjects but try to keep them more female centered. We have different tastes in games, but my favorite type is mmorpg and single player rpgs.

Pleasure to meet everyone! Send me messages if you have any questions and such.

Wow! Some amazing stories around here. It's really interesting to know about the background of everybody.

My name's Kevin Selles, born in Spain but migrated to London a couple of years ago (actually, it'll be two years in February). I'm 21 years old and currently studying a Level 3 course in Graphic Design so I can get into Uni next year. I love art and design, but I would never see myself working as a designer, creating things on demand, so I'm also thinking about doing a degree in journalism, or maybe photography. I'd also like to improve my English. I don't want to study journalism and not understand half of what they're telling me! I live in Victoria, right behind the Press Association building, so it's kind of motivating to see the newsroom from my bedroom. I could do the course there… Maybe someday.

In my spare time I try to keep my site alive, but I'm finding it specially difficult to do so from where I am. It's not easy to delegate stuff from another country (the rest of the team is in Spain!), talk to the companies, attend events, etc. Of course, I'm in the UK but since the site is in Spanish I can only deal with the PR guys in Spain, so… yeah. It's time consuming.

Anyway, I'd like to keep it short (and it's late), so I'll save the rest of my life for another time.

Nice to meet you all!
