At the moment I have an image of you in a long brown trenchcoat and cool hat on a rainy night, walking the foggy streets, through the street lights, all the while doing a voice over about the futility of life in 1940s New York or something.

I will admit, I own a black fedora which I wear often. I don't have a trench coat, but I was walking in the rain with a co-worker just the other day complaining about something or other. Not exactly Rorscach, but I do my best. |

Hello all, reconize a lot of faces from a few other social networking places. I'll just give you the basics.
I've been writing about the video game industry since 2001 and didn't begin taking it too seriously until 2006. At that point I decided to start doing some serious freelancing and have found gigs at various sites covering the industry at large (TheGameReviews.com, GamingTarget.com), general news (The Gamer's Voice) and more narrow-minded sites like ProjectLore.com & GetBuffed.com (WoW & MMORPG related respectively).

I don't know why I need ANOTHER social networking site, especially one with game journos (again) but whatever. Let's play social butterfly.
Mitch Dyer, Canadian freelancer for GamePro, GamesRadar, GameSpot, The Escapist, GameShark and others. Personal blog is http://downwritefierce.com, where I experiment writing reviews in various styles and try to cook up cool things to read. It's also an excuse for me to write about old stuff I missed like Half-Life 2 and Yakuza.
I've been writing since 2004 or 2005 and got my first paying gig in 2008 with Official Xbox Magazine's online site, which ultimately led to work on their mag doing reviews, which then evolved into a flourishing part-time career.
And, oddly enough, I've known Joshkdmw for, like, 6 years. Seeing him here wigs me out, but does not surprise me.
Anyway, yo. |

Hey everyone, Devin here!! I broke into the video game journalism world by submitting a review of The Punisher to Cheat Code Central (cheatcc.com) way back in 2005. I spent about a year with CheatCC, working my way up from Staff Writer to Previews Editor. After attending E3 2005 and covering the event for CheatCC, I was given a promise of payment for my articles! Unfortunately, CheatCC wasn't super big back then and the payments never came, so I decided to start my own venture. After a few failed blogs, discontinuing an audio podcast and a video podcast, I'm back to writing. I've been trying to freelance with a couple of different sites, and the interview process has been a bit slow. However, I'm still padding my portfolio and resume in the hopes that I can one day make a successful and enjoying career as a video game journalist. ______________________ Devin Di Nardo | Founder / Host for Lifebar: Video Game Radio |

Thanks for this amazing topic. I'm Edward. I currently write for XboxInsider.net, where I am the PR Coordinator and also a games reviewer. I graduated college in 2004 with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Comp Sci. I currently reside in Charolotte, NC, USA. I've always been an avid gamer and always interested in the gaming industry. Recently, I've decided to pursue this hobby into a full time experience. The gaming industry is something I'd love to get into full time, and hopefully, provide a living for myself. Writing and reviewing is something I'd love to do. I'd love to make connections on this site to allow myself to grow both as a worker on the site I currently work for, and possibly in the future. This looks like the best place to network with people in similar positions. |

I first started writing about gaming back in 2002 when I started up my first fansite for The Legend of Zelda series - which is really where everything started. Back in the day you had to know HTML long hand and I would create my websites and learn how to make everything tick behind the scenes. This was whilst keeping my ear to the ground about any Zelda rumours and writing guides and content for my viewers to read. I then started up my own fansite which grew and was one of the dominant Zelda sites of the time and from there I started doing interviews of other webmasters and started working on The Hylia with Mike. When The Hylia moved across to Zentendo I really started to write about videogames, contact PRs and write reviews. I'm know the News and UK Editor at Zentendo, and I've also dabbled in a few paid writing gigs about casinos and other bits that I had no interest in - but needed the money! Videogaming is really where my heart lies, and Zelda lies at the heart of that but I started writing about anime a few years back and now write a quarterly piece for Jade Screen magazine. I'm an avid gamer and I love the Japanese culture, but my health and my job have kept me back in the past year and a half. Fortunately the former is back on track and my job, well, working for an Airline in Sales in this economic environment is stress enough for anyone! lol. So to make the stress worse I keep myself occupied with my anime site, Zelda site, Zentendo work and Jade Screen and take on the occasional gigs whenever I feel it appropriate. Nothing as grand as most of you! |

Hey all, Gotta keep this brief as I'm about to run out the door so here's the quick, generic intro... My names John and I stumbled upon this site from the VGJN. Looks like a very well done forum. I spend most my time each day on www.thegamereviews.com . I work for that site (how I pay my bills and all; just barely I might add). Hope you can take a chance to look it over/ possibly even make it into the forums! I’d consider myself pretty knowledgeable about games so if you every have questions or want to talk about them feel free to message me on Aim: C41n141 Looking forward to adding to your discussions! |
